A Relevant Life?

Recently, a friend of mine has posted a few things on living a relevant life here. This has been one of the issues that constantly plagues me, and Mikes insight has been interesting to follow.

Words like purpose, meaning, worth, relevancy, just to name a few seem to cause much confusion. Not so much in the understanding, but in the execution of such glorious meaning in our lives. What should we pursue to gain this elusive prize with the life we have been given?

Glory, honor, truth, and value are elements we would all like to have in our lives. But when we close our eyes at night and think about who we really are and what we are accomplishing, do we honestly feel like these words are apart of our character? Or, do we feel like we are just getting by, trying to keep up with in a race where we can not show who we really are? When I think about a relevant life, the feeling of suffocating in the subterfuge of life's mascaraed is not part of my vision. So how do we pursue a relevant life honestly, truthfully, and whole heartily without sacrificing all that is important to us. For me, I think I have to start with redefining what is important to me. I have to define that which I validate myself by and with. I do not need to feel important to be relevant. I do not need power and influence to be relevant. In fact it is not even up to me to determine what is relevant for my life. I am to live obedient and stand my post as asked.

The problem with this is that I run the risk of living a boring, bland, and uneventful life. Here is where I think we humans get in trouble. This type of life is just not very thrilling. Therefore I have trouble keeping on course when my whole body is screaming for adventure. I have realized that relevancy does not usually look huge. In fact more often than not, relevancy looks small and obscure. What do you think on this topic, I would love to hear from you about what you feel are the key elements to living a relevant life?

Marine In God's service

A United States Marine was attending some college courses between assignments. He had completed missions in Iraq and Afghanistan . One of the courses had a professor who was a vowed atheist and a member of the ACLU. One day the professor shocked the class when he came in. He looked to the ceiling and flatly stated, "God, if you are real, then I want you to knock me off this platform. I'll give you exactly 15 minutes." The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop. Ten minutes went by and the professor proclaimed, "Here I am God. I'm still waiting." It got down to the last couple of minutes when the Marine got out of his Chair, went up to the professor, and cold-cocked him; knocking him off the platform. The professor was out cold. The Marine went back to his seat and sat there, silently. The other students were shocked and stunned and sat there looking on in silence. The professor eventually came to, noticeably shaken, looked at the Marine and asked, "What the hell is the matter with you? Why did you do that?" The Marine calmly replied, "God was too busy today protecting America's soldiers who are protecting your right to say stupid things and act like an idiot. So, He sent me."
